A new era in El Clasico begins tonight

The biggest football game looms on the horizon as Barcelona host Real Madrid at Camp Nou tonight.

This El Classico is the start of a new era. For ten years, the maestros, the artists, the warriors, who gave their all have been absent.

An El Classico without Messi, Ramos, Ronaldo, Suarez, Iniesta, Varane and many more – the nostalgia could reach a different level as fans might not be ready to witness such things.

There again, Busquets, Pique, Roberto, Alba, Benzema, Modric, Casemiro, Kroos, Marcelo would still be there. And young people like Fati, Vinicius, Rodrygo, Gavi, De Jong, Militao, Fede Valverde, Dest could mark a new era of Spanish football. Lots of things to look for in this game.

Obviously being in transition, neither team have enjoyed good form throughout the season.

Real Madrid are still at the top of the table with 17 points in 8 games. Barça, meanwhile, are two points behind them. They will take advantage of this match to overtake their rivals.

Real Madrid will try to widen the gap with the others, in particular with Atletico Madrid and Sevilla who are tied with them.

Nevertheless, the two teams proved to be in good contact just before the clash.

Barca recorded back-to-back wins for the first time this season against Valencia and Dynamo Kiev. Real Madrid beat Shakhtar Donetsk 5-0 away to show they are ready for Barca.

Maybe the two have indicated that they are up for anything.

Both teams are in a similar state. Their attack is more dependent on individual brilliance, their defense is wobbly and their Achilles heel.

The midfielder is their main source of strength and the team depend on it for the result. In addition, there are quite a few injury issues before the game.

Barca will be missed by Araujo and Pedri for this. Alba is also doubtful of having a sprained ankle against Kiev. But Fati and Aguero being in good shape is a boost for them. Real Madrid might not be missed all that much at Bale, however, both Carvajal and Kroos, returning from injury, might not do their best tonight, if they play.

Then again, this is the nicest thing about the Classico. No matter how much better form a team is, no matter what their momentum, the 22 players on the pitch neutralize everything on the pitch by giving their all.

The past never matters, only the 90 minute period counts. Or, why would this be the most enticing game in the world?

Tune in at 8:15 p.m. BST if you don’t want to miss it.
