Agyei-Obese back on the pitch in JMU spring training

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) — Percy Agyei-Obese is back on the field for the James Madison football team.

The standout running back is participating in spring training and preparing for what will be his sixth season with the Dukes when they travel to the Sun Belt Conference and FBS this fall. Agyei-Obese returns after an injury-riddled 2021 season in which he played just four games.

“This spring is very important for me, especially after losing last season,” Agyei-Obese said. “I feel like this spring is my chance to get back on my feet. To get my edge back too.

Agyei-Obese earned All-American honors in 2019 and through the 2021 spring season. He’s been a workhorse for the Dukes, who rank ninth all-time at JMU with 2,595 rushing yards in career to go along with 31 rushing touchdowns (4th all-time at JMU). His best season came in 2019 when he rushed for 1,216 yards and scored 19 rushing touchdowns.

“I see myself better with the reaction and the cuts and stuff like that,” Agyei-Obese said after Friday’s spring training for JMU. “I’m working to get that little extra edge that I used to have.”

The JMU Spring Match is set for Saturday, April 23 at 1 p.m.
