Barcelona assess Bosman’s decision for the 30-year-old forward

Barcelona are on the hunt for a new striker after Sergio Aguero retires due to heart disease.

While the Catalans have signed Ferran Torres, who can play in the middle, Ousmane Dembele’s contractual situation and the uncertainty it has created have changed plans, along with Xavi Hernandez & co. looking for another offensive addition.

Several players like Manchester United’s Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial, Atletico Madrid’s Alvaro Morata (on loan to Juventus), among others, have been mentioned as targets.

Another name that’s in the mix, according to Fichajes, is that of former Villarreal striker Cédric Bakambu. The 30-year-old is currently a free agent after his contract with Chinese Super League clubs Beijing Guoan ended and has been on Barca’s radar several times in the past.

Indeed, the Catalans have come close to signing Bakambu twice in the past, only to see moves fail. However, they are now considering the possibility of bringing him into the club in the current transfer window.

The DR Congo striker has a proven track record in Spanish football, having made more than 100 appearances for Villarreal, in which he scored 47 goals. He also enjoyed a prolific stint in China, scoring 58 times in just 87 games.

At 30, Bakambu still has a lot to offer and has previously indicated that he would be happy to be able to play for Barcelona. The fact that it would cost nothing in transfer fees is certain to appeal to the Blaugrana.

The report also states that the forward, who has earned € 10million per season in China, has reduced his salary demands to around € 3.5million per year, which should be very affordable for Barca, even. if he could have to move some players to integrate it into the payroll while respecting the FFP rules of La Liga.

With a move for Morata hitting several issues, Bakambu could prove to be a wise buy for the Catalan giants.
