In a recent report, Fichajes revealed that Barcelona are locked in a three-way battle for Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak, whose current contract is set to expire in the summer of 2023. It has been claimed the Catalan giants could do face competition from Bayern Munich and Juventus chasing the Slovenia international during the summer transfer window.
Oblak’s tough campaign in Spanish football
Oblak has had a difficult season at the Wanda Metropolitano but has done well to produce a handful of dominating displays at the back for Atletico over the past few months. The 29-year-old has made 35 appearances for the Spanish side this campaign, conceding 47 goals and providing nine assists across all fronts.
The Slovenian keeper averages 5.0 long balls per game in La Liga. He was often long when distributing the ball from the back, which is why he only completed 56.7% of his pass attempts in league football (stats via whoscored).

What will Oblak bring to Barcelona?
Oblak is a strong ball handler and has great reflexes that allow him to make world-class saves from the back. He can read danger and is usually quite strong when going out to collect stray balls and crosses inside his penalty area.
The 44-time Slovenian international is a good shot, but can sometimes give away the ball cheaply, something he needs to rectify if he wants to be a success at a club like Barcelona.
The experienced goalkeeper could help Barca get back into the challenge for the league title. Oblak can be expected to bring a lot of quality to Xavi’s first team. He could even serve as an ideal replacement for Marc-André ter Stegen if the German goalkeeper ends up leaving the Catalan club at the end of this campaign.
All things considered, it makes perfect sense for Xavi to engineer a move to bring Oblak to Camp Nou as he is a top-notch keeper who would help the Catalan giants challenge for some major trophies in the coming seasons.
