Burnley’s striking prospect delivers statement of intent ahead of new Premier League season

Max Thompson has sent out a message of intent on the eve of the new season as he aims for a regular place in the first team.

The young forward has signed a new contract with the Clarets and is determined to find his way into senior thinking.

Thompson, who scored best for the Under-23s last season, had an interest elsewhere but ultimately decided to sign new terms with Burnley.

And he aims to impress Sean Dyche during the preseason as he aims for more Premier League minutes.

The 19-year-old made his debut for the Clarets as a late substitute in a 5-0 loss to Man City in June 2020 and wants to add to that tally.

“I can’t wait to start over and I really want to keep going,” said the former Everton and Manchester United youngster.

“I want to prove to the staff and the manager that I’m ready to take it to the next level. I got a little taste and that makes you so much hungrier and working harder and trying to cement a place.

“Last season was really good. My favorite thing is scoring goals so it’s always nice to make an impact that way, but it’s about the team and we were so close to the play- offs.

“I hope that as an Under 23 we can get there this year and as a person I can advance to the first team.

“It’s the most comfortable I have felt in a place in a long time and I hope to stay here as long as possible and do the best I can for the club.”
