West Ham United manager David Moyes says he is “disappointed” by Jesse Lingard’s lack of playing time since returning to Old Trafford from his loan at London Stadium.
The 28-year-old has been on a successful loan spell at Stratford, scoring nine times to help West Ham reach European football for the first time in nine years, but has yet to start for Man United this campaign.
His playing time has been badly affected this season following the arrival of summer rookies Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo, and it remains to be seen whether Lingard fits into new boss Ralf Rangnick’s plans.

“I can’t really speak to him because he’s a Manchester United player and it’s not for me to speak,” Moyes said. “But he was really good for us. Jesse knows what we all think about him here. My disappointment for Jesse would be that I think he’s such a talented football player and doesn’t play.
“He played a big role in our second half of last season. But you have to give credit to the players here, they evolved without Jesse.
“People would have thought Jesse made a difference here. But the players have moved on and taken to another level themselves. But I have to say Jesse was a big part of it.
Rumors have circulated of a possible return to West Ham for Lingard, which sparked a conversation among the Hammers fan base after reposting an image from West Ham’s official Instagram account of him celebrating a goal in burgundy and blue last season. .
Lingard can leave Man United next summer with a free transfer and may start negotiations with foreign clubs next month, having already attracted interest from Barcelona and AC Milan.
