FSU had six players on Pro Football Focus’s preseason All-ACC squad

Pro Football Focus released its All-American and All-Conference preseason squads this week as part of its countdown to the start of the college football season.

After a 3-6 season and still trying to strengthen their roster in several areas, Florida State had no All-America players and no All-ACC first-team selection.

Six Seminoles made the list, which was selected based on PFF’s ratings and advanced stats.

Redshirt’s sophomore Amari Gainer was Noles’ best selection, making the second team to linebacker. Gainer started five games and made all nine of last season, totaling 65 tackles, a record, including five for losses.

Redshirt senior tackle Devontay Love-Taylor and Redshirt running back Lawrance Toafili each made third team in their respective positions. Love-Taylor started seven games in 2020 before suffering an injury, while Toafili figures as one of FSU’s main options outside the backfield along with Jashaun Corbin.

Florida State linebacker Amari Gainer won All-ACC preseason second-team honors on Pro Football Focus's All-Conference preseason squads. Gainer, who led the team in tackles in 2020, was one of six Seminoles selected.

Redshirt senior quarterback McKenzie Milton made an honorable mention behind Sam Howell of North Carolina, DJ Uiagalelei of Clemson and D’Eriq King of Miami in that order. Milton, who missed all of 2019 and 2020, is competing with the sophomore redshirt Jordan Travis for the starting position this fall.

Redshirt second-year safety Jammie Robinson, a transfer to South Carolina, and Redshirt second-year punter Alex Mastromanno were also selected as honorable mentions.

Clemson led all ACC teams with 16 caps, including two All-Americans against offensive tackle Jordan McFadden and defensive tackle Bryan Bresee. Miami (11) and NC State (10) were the only others with double-digit caps. North Carolina, Miami and Pittsburgh also had two All-American selections with Panthers punter Kirk Christodoulou being the only first-team selection.
