John Allan Marien – Duluth News Tribune


88, of Eagan, MN, passed away on December 15, 2021 in Lancaster, California with his family by his side. John was born June 4, 1933 in Duluth, MN. He attended public schools in Duluth, then attended the University of Minnesota at Duluth, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology with a minor in business. John continued his education earning a degree from the American Institute of Banking and the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin.

John and Lorraine (Jones) were married in 1961, had four children, lived in South St. Paul, MN and were together until his death in 2003. He served in the U.S. Army, as an advisor camp at Duluth YMCA/Camp Miller, was actively involved in his church and served in many local organizations, including his Beta Phi Kappa fraternity. John retired from Wells Fargo Bank in 1990, then worked as a court-appointed conservator until 2018, retiring a second time at the age of 85.

John is survived by his daughter Kay (Irv) Marien-Vaughn, his sons Greg (Julie) Marien and Doug (Tori) Marien, his grandson Michael Arnold and his brother Gene (Norma) Marien. He was predeceased by his parents Edwin and Cornelia (Grimson) Marien, his wife Lorraine Marien and his daughter Susan (Marien) Arnold.

The Celebration of Life service will be scheduled at a later date.
