Liverpool tipped to sign ‘superb’ Gavi after £41.7m report

Kevin Campbell claimed Barcelona starlet Gavi would be a “superb signing” for Liverpool.

The former Arsenal striker, who delivered weekly tips for La Liga TV last season, spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the 17-year-old.

According to Sport (January 19), Gavi is wanted by English sides Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool – as well as German giants Bayern Munich.

The report claims the youngster’s release clause at Barcelona is set at €50m (£41.7m) as talks over a contract renewal continue.

Campbell claimed Liverpool could ‘mold and nurture’ the youngster if they brought him to Anfield.

“He’s another local talent in Barcelona” he said Football Insiderit’s Dylan Childs.

“Gavi has a bit of him too, he has a very tough streak.

“Going out and buying the best players will be difficult for Liverpool because the best players want to play week after week.

“But if you get a youngster that you can mold and nurture into, like Gavi – wow, that would be a great signing for them.”

Gavi’s current deal at Camp Nou expires at the end of next season.

The 17-year-old already has four caps for Spain after making his senior debut for Luis Enrique in October 2021.

The midfielder has featured 25 times for Blaugrana this season, scoring one and assisting another three.

Liverpool sit second in the Premier League and are 11 points behind leaders Man City with one game less.

Jurgen Klopp’s side will face Crystal Palace on Sunday.

In other news, a medical expert fears the Liverpool star could be out for another ‘six weeks’ following the training revelation.
