Gabby Agbonlahor ranked Manchester United’s defense as the best in the Premier League, after the addition of Raphael Varane.
The Frenchman has completed a full week of training ahead of United’s trip to the south coast to face Southampton. Newly acquired Edinson Cavani scored two goals, including a 92nd-minute winner, to help United to a 3-2 victory last time around.
Varane could be in line to make his United debut on Sunday. Still, United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to persist with Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof’s partnership until his new signing of £ 41million returns to match fitness.
Former Aston Villa and England international Agbonlahor is impressed with the addition of the four-time Champions League winner, ranking, with the inclusion of Varane, United’s defense as the best in the league.
“If he [Varane] debut, I think they have the best defense in the league, ”Agbonlahor told talkSPORT. “Luke Shaw, Varane, Maguire and Wan-Bissaka is the best defense in the league.
“That’s what they claim in the games. Lindelof is fine but has a mistake in him. Varane has no mistake in him. He makes sense.
“Maguire is the one who will play with it, come out with the ball and who better than Varane, one of the fastest center-backs in the league now, right there saying ‘come on Maguire, you are going over there. If you lose it, I’m back here with Wan-Bissaka to tidy up for you. “
“I’m excited to see him. I hope he plays.”
Varane has been named to the United bench for their trip to Southampton, with Lindelof partnering with Maguire.
