2023 ED White Catholic offensive lineman Matthew Broussard has signed up for the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns football team.
Broussard announced his engagement on his Twitter account on Saturday. He said playing for UL was an opportunity he couldn’t pass up.
“I’m very excited. It really is a dream come true for me,” Broussard said. “I really wanted it, and I worked very hard to get there.”
The 6-foot-4, 275-pound Broussard plays left tackle at ED White, but is expected to drop to guard in college. He chose UL over offers from Louisiana-Monroe, Nicholls, Southeast Louisiana and Northwestern State, according to ED White coach Kyle Lasseigne.
Lasseigne said football coaches at UL heavily recruited Broussard from several camps this summer.
“There is no more deserving athlete than Matt,” Lasseigne said. “He has transformed over his four years to earn a chance to play top-level college football. His work ethic is second to none. His humility is admired. We wish Matt the best in his promising future.”
Broussard said the relationship he developed with UL football coaches and players made a difference in his decision.
“Since I went there, I loved it,” Broussard said. “I loved the atmosphere. All the players were kind and respectful, and I really wanted to be part of it. Also, the coaches always showed me a lot of love throughout my recruiting process. They checked me from time to time, and that meant a lot to me.”

As a junior, Broussard helped ED White’s offense compile 2,674 rushing yards and 35 touchdowns during the 2021 season. He is a major contributor to ED White’s massive offensive line. The Cardinals finished second in Division II in 2021.
Broussard finished his junior season with numerous post-season awards, including first-team selections to District 9-3A team, The Courier football team and Daily Comet’s Best of Bayou Preps and the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 3A team.
