Optimism rises for Ann Arbor area football teams on second MLive media day

ANN ARBOR, MI – Much like the first day of MLive High School Football Media Day in the Ann Arbor area, the second day of the event featured more optimism from the teams as they were heading to Concordia University Stadium on Wednesday.

The final day of the two-day event saw several preparation teams take place in the festivities where they took photos and shared their thoughts on the season with team and individual interviews.

Ypsilanti, Milan, Ann Arbor, Father Gabriel Richard and Saline all participated in Day 2 and each team shared the excitement of the upcoming football season.

“We are very excited,” said Caden Winston, senior at Saline. “We cannot take anything for granted.”

For Milan senior receiver and defensive back Evan Morelock, media day meant a new experience as we approach a new season.

“I’ve never done this before, so it’s new to me, but it’s a lot of fun,” said Morelock when visiting his team.

Ypsilanti’s coach Don Brown had the challenge of coaching his first season in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season and said learning from last season’s obstacles made him a better coach with a new perspective.

“Last year was a challenge because of all the starts and stops,” he said. “The bright side of last year is that you had to deal with the adversity of stopping and starting and the adversity of having a short year.

“It was great for me because it allowed me to focus on the little things to make sure we get them done.”

Not only did the media days mark the start of the season, they also highlighted optimism for a full season for players like senior linebacker Ypsilanti and tight end Brandon Logwood.

“It’s better to know that we are getting the full season so that we can show more of our talents as a team,” said Logwood. “It gives us more time to work on what we need. “
