Ross named defensive POTY Super Region Two, five Bulldogs take D2CCA Football All-America honors



BOWIE, Maryland – Bowie State Jonathan ross title the Division II Conference Commissioner’s Association (D2CCA) All-America football teams taking home the Defensive Player of the Year award in Super Region 2 as the Bulldogs capture five Super Region 2 caps announced Thursday morning.

Ross helped nationally ranked Bowie State win their third straight Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Championship, a third straight CIAA North Division title and two NCAA DII playoff victories for the first time in the history of the program. The All-CIAA first team winner leads the No.10 Bowie State Bulldogs in tackles with 76 (40 solo), 26.0 tackles for a loss (103 yards), nine sacks (main team) for 53 yards, eight rushed QBs, six forced fumbles and one break.

As one of the anchor points of defense, the Bulldogs lead the nation with eight defensive touchdowns, third conversion percentage down to defense (0.240), second in fumbles recovered (19), third in turnovers won. (33), fifth in total defense (3.73 yards per game) and fell to 10th place in total team sacks (46).

The CIAA as a whole had a total of nine award-winning student-athletes while Bowie State had a total of five, including three first-team recipients and two second-team recipients – third best among teams with the most selections behind Valdosta State (13) and West Florida (7).

Senior offensive lineman and All-CIAA Quinton Bobo (White Plains, MD), senior graduate and linebacker Wesley bowers (Fort Washington, MD) joined Ross in the first team of Super Region Two. The senior running back Calil wilkins (Temple Hills, MD), who is also a Harlon Hill National Trophy finalist and defensive back and senior graduate Myles Wolfolk (Largo, MD) entered the second-team All-Super Region Two.
