Luis de la Fuente has named a 22-man squad for the Olympic Games, as Spain pursues the gold medal. Although he is mentioned as someone who could take one of the excess places, Sergio ramos was not included at the end.
It comes as another blow to the center-back after he was ruled out from Luis Enriquethe Euro 2020 team and after he was unable to renew his contract at real Madrid because he didn’t accept their offer on time.
The three players over 23 who will be part of the squad are Dani Ceballos, Marco asensio and Merino Mikel. With Ceballos 24 years old and the other two 25 years old, they are only slightly over the age limit anyway and know many other U21 players well.
The players called by Luis de la Fuente are scheduled to meet on June 30, although six members of the Olympic team currently represent the senior team at Euro 2020. They are Unai Simon, Eric Garcia, Pau Torres, Pedri, Mikel Oyarzabal and Dani Olmo, who all played a part in Monday’s victory over Croatia.
In addition to Ramos, Borja Town Hall and Ferran Torres are two of the other players whose absences may surprise.
