Stephen J. DeBakker

Vulcan – Stephen J. “Steve” DeBakker, 58, of Vulcan, died Sunday, April 3, 2022.

He was born June 10, 1963 in Escanaba, son of George Michaud and Priscilla DeBakker. Steve grew up in Vulcan and graduated from Norwegian high school.

He worked as a cable technician for Northside TV Co-op for 22 years and assisted Niagara TV Co-op and UP Logon Internet as needed. In fact, he was quite proud to work for all of them, and he liked the job because they were all very good to him.

Steve enjoyed hunting, fishing, racing cars and being outside with nature in the summer. He was a hard worker and loved his extended family and all the little children. Whenever he saw someone on the street or at work, he always smiled. He helped a lot of people because his family thinks he was the greatest self-taught mechanic. Steve will be missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Priscilla and Ed Maeder; mother-in-law, Sandy Michaud; significant other, Pietra Matthews; one brother, Guy (Laureen) Michaud; six sisters, Gigi (Ed) Thun, Gidget (Steven) Jesseman, Ginger Michaud, Laurie (Antonio) Herrera, Ericka Michaud and Michele (Denis) Kreft; two uncles, Tom (Sandy) DeBakker and Eugene Walker; and several nieces, nephews, cousins ​​and extended family.

In addition to his father, George, Steve was predeceased by his godmother, Rosalyn (Sam) Bilski, his aunt, Lorraine Walker, and his grandparents, Louis and Emma DeBakker.

Visitation will be Monday, April 18 from 10 a.m. to noon at Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron Mountain, followed by a memorial service Monday at noon. Deacon Don Christy will officiate. Burial will be in Norway Township Cemetery in the spring.
