The best of Varane at Real Madrid
The new season is only a few weeks away and clubs are starting to show more interest in goals during this transfer window after a short hiatus after Euro 2020.
Manchester United have made a significant effort this summer, securing a deal for Jadon Sancho, while Raphael Varane is another key target to elevate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side to the title race.
The stars of this summer’s tournament could also be away with Italy’s Manuel Locatelli, currently with Sassuolo, a target for both Juventus and Arsenal. While the money has already been spent in south London, Crystal Palace has landed Marc Guehi from Chelsea for £ 18million.
While Lionel Messi has reportedly struck a new five-year deal with Barcelona, which will apparently involve the captain taking a huge pay cut due to the club’s financial difficulties. His Barca team-mate Antoine Griezmann is expected to leave Camp Nou, with the Blaugrana apparently keen to send him back to Atletico Madrid and acquire Saul Niguez in return. There have also been rumors that the France international could travel to Chelsea on loan, but a return to Atletico seems much more likely from his perspective.
In other news, Leicester hope to push Liverpool back to retain midfielder Yuri Tielemans, per The telegraph, and the Daily Mirror report that Tammy Abraham could be used by Chelsea to bolster a trade deal with Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland. After two decades of Daniel Levy, Tottenham’s plan remains unclear
Tottenham Hotspur made worse nominations than Nuno Espirito Santo. The 47-year-old was given the managerial post after a torturous and painful recruitment process in which Antonio Conte, Paulo Fonseca and Gennaro Gattuso assessed the situation at White Hart Lane and decided their future was elsewhere .
No wonder the candidates had reservations. There is little money available to make a side that finished seventh in the Premier League competitive and Harry Kane wants to come out. In a financial environment depressed by the impact of the pandemic, Kane may not generate the kind of fees he might have been worth in normal years. Even Daniel Levy’s notoriously stubborn negotiations will be unlikely to fetch the kind of money needed to rebuild the team in the absence of the talismanic captain.
The main thing that potential high-level managers want to hear is the budget they will need to work with. In Tottenham talks, the main targets did not like the answers given to them.
