Two Auburn Tigers become Super Bowl champions

Super Bowl LVI lived up to all expectations, as the Los Angeles Rams were crowned Super Bowl champions on Sunday, February 13and when they beat the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 in an all-time great game at SoFi Stadium.

Congratulations to former 2015 Auburn defensive back Blake Countess on winning his first Super Bowl ring after falling narrowly to the Tom Brady-led New England Patriots in 2019.

Another big shout out to Les Snead, General Manager of the Los Angeles Rams, and former Auburn alumnus and graduate football assistant from 1993-1994 and for his first Super Bowl win and the fantastic team he assembled to win one.

Another Auburn/Rams connection to commend is Jeff Schmedding, Auburn’s current defensive coordinator, who served as the defensive coordinator at Eastern Washington from 2004-2018. He developed a great relationship with the Los Angeles Rams wide receiver and Super Bowl MVP Copper Kupp while he was there. Kupp was still taking Schmedding’s brains about the game in Eastern Washington from 2012 to 2016.

Schmedding tweeted after the big game “Congratulations @CooperKupp!!! Extreme hard work pays off. High character and work ethic. Glad to be part of it”

Also, I want to congratulate former Auburn tight end CJ Uzomah and the Cincinnati Bengals on a great season and post-season.

It’s been a great season in the NFL with a lot of former Auburn Tigers having great years. It’s time to prepare for the offseason and prepare for next year.
