Preview Valencia vs Athletic
These two teams found themselves in the top half of the La Liga table. For each side to continue this negative streak could have negative repercussions.
Valencia shared the lead with Real Madrid until the weekend when they lost to the Merengues 2-1. Now, having lost to Sevilla, Valencia are in shock and need to win to keep this team in good shape.
The home side are currently in third place, but another loss could cause them to falter. This is especially true after the Sevilla game where the mistakes they made cost them dearly. One of the players who came under heavy criticism for his game was goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who had one of the Howler of the Year.
There is very little room for changes as Valencia still have several injured players. Gabriel Paulista, who was the captain in place of Carlos Soler, spoke of the blame that was distributed among the defenders.
“We talked about it before the game. We knew we had to go out focused and not miss the little details. We failed in this. Sevilla are a great team and they can’t forgive you.
Athletic Club lost heartbreakingly to Rayo Vallecano thanks to a 96th-minute goal from Radamel Falcao García. Yet that’s not the only bad news Marcelino García Toral has had to contend with after his first crash at San Mamés.
Marcelino García Toral is spinning his players as his side are at the end of a streak where they have made four appearances in 14 days. This stretch ends facing one of the clubs in which he has had the most success. García Toral won the Copa del Rey with Valencia in 2019, but he would be sacked in September of the year after his comments on the property.
Forward Asier Villalibre has left the match due to injury and will not be available for this weekend’s match. This ends up extending the already long list of injured players they already had
Nico Williams also left the game due to a physical issue, but there is a chance he will be ready for the game against Los Che as he gets over the cramps that have been affecting him.
